In their hatred of anything they think is "modern", the Christofascists in America are now going after sans-serif typefaces. Marco Rubio orders State Department to start using Times New Roman instead of Calibri in official communication.
Times New Roman is from 1931. Caibri is from this century, sure, but fairly close to Futura, from 1927.
And yes, of course both Times New Roman and Futura are based on the style of older typefaces. Sans-serif typefaces are nothing new.
And seriously, Times New Roman? Tell me that you have very little imagination without telling me that you have very little imagination.
(I am not saying that mandating Calibri was especially innovative either, as it is (was) the default sans-serif typeface in non-current versions of Microsoft Office. Surely they could have commissioned a typeface of their own, like some even much smaller organisations do?)
Also, don't they know that one of the design principles for Times New Roman back in the days was to increase legibility in small sizes, i.e. increase *inclusivity*, which they purport to hate. I don't understand why they don't mandate Fraktur, like in the original German?
