Automatic braking systems save lives. Now they’ll need to work at 62 mph.
Regulators have ordered an expansion of the tech, but the auto industry says the upgrade won’t be easy.

Do they save lives? As I watch the number of cars with this technology go up, I am also watching road deaths go up. This report does not look at the whole picture. How do these systems influence drivers? Do they make it more likely drivers will pay more attention to the road or less? I would suspect less.
I'm not against this technology, but it will be used to justify doing little else to stop the carnage on our roads. When many things are needed to make our roads safer, speed limits, vehicle design and size, road design, and fewer cars, my concern is that this report will simply be used to distract us from taking those measures.

wow, assumed my braking assistance would help on a motorway, but sounds like that doesn't particularly exist yet.
Hoping this happens, motorway pile ups are stupid

intelligent pedestrians saves more lives. Automatic braking won’t prevent a truck moving at the correct speed from running over an idiot that unlawfully crosses the road right in frint if the truck because the were looking at the phone instead of where they were going!
