And the next administration shrugs.

“Scientists warn that a key Atlantic current could collapse, among other climate tipping points

A new report describes the dire state of Earth’s snow and ice, suggesting several major tipping points are likelier than scientists once thought.” #ClimateCrisis

The last time the AMOC (Atlantic Meridionial Overturning Circulation) or Gulf Stream, was disrupted, it triggered an Ice Age and mass extinctions.

The human race can take pride that they permitted a few billionaires to manufacture an uninhabitable planet while maximizing shareholder value, as they risk an extinction level event for all species.

@Npars01 Sadly past logic declared that the needs of the rich outweigh the needs of the poor (a side effect of market economies, but not only in market economies), the needs of the selected race or group outweigh the needs of other races or groups (colonialism, slavery other than debt slavery) or the powerful vs the weak (early cities, feudalism, serfdom, warlords/banditry)
It's an ethical decision.

When really bad stuff happens, people need to organize militias to go after the billionaires, wherever they hide!

Eliminating the billionaire doesn't eliminate the money & power dynamics they set into operation.

They have nonprofits replete with cash to finish what they started for the next 50 years.

Bradley passed away in 1965. The cash he put into the Bradley Foundation has been plugging away at disenfranchisement schemes for 60 years and shows no sign of abatement.

Now imagine AI managing that money for Koch's $5 billion...

@Npars01. How naive of me. I was mentally counting on the death of each billionaire ending their personal crusade against humanity. Damn.

The solutions to megalomaniac billionaires are as complex as the processes that created them.

Complex problems usually require complex solutions.

Wealth taxes. Windfall taxes. Antitrust. Global minimum tax treaties. Fossil fuel phase out. Financial regulation. Inheritance taxes. Ethics standards for the Supreme Court.

But most of all it takes an electorate interested in democracy and saving the planet from climate change.

It’s the punishment Cult, Punishment is the opposite idea from evolution, and it makes everyone worse, apparently on purpose because how can a whole world not see it?

I've never understood why folks tolerate the self-appointed punitiveness of conservatives.

The right wing aren't a judge, jury, & executioner but people accept that arrogance anyway.

That final requirement seems the hardest to accomplish in light of the recent elections in the US.

Billionaires and tech bros have unlimited resources and advanced technologies to micro target for brainwashing any portion of the electorate.

The chances are the complex solution to this complex. Problem will be climate change. These people are methodically inducing and fantasize that they can insulate themselves from the damage caused by extreme weather, render most long-term large scale, development, and investment financially insolvent.

There won’t be there there a supply chain, and the civilization network to function in.

And I think Slate characterized Charles correctly that he is a messianic figure, intent on rewriting human civilization. He certainly has done so for the United States.

These nonprofits along with much else must be pulled apart, or we get it for free: American society collapses for their cancerous effect to finally end.

It is not in money management that AI concerns me, it’s the pervasive surveillance, and military applications, real and dramatically expanding capacity for both of AI thru Peter Thiel’s ventures that is truly terrifying.

Thiel has access to real leverage power in Vance and possibly Vivek.

That man inspires to the evil straight out of Tolkein’s legendarium.

The models described in the Mar ‘24 Vox article have variables whose behavior are poorly understood which makes drawing conclusions highly uncertain — and very scary.

The article concludes:

“We need to rule out such a potential future scenario,” Van Westen [Utrecht University] says. “And therefore, very urgent climate action is needed to limit our impact on Earth.”

I believe I read that sea water is already infiltrating the water table there, and it's only going to get worse.

That's why the condo collapsed a couple of years ago, salt water corrosion of the foundation. We're going to see a lot more of that, too.
