My husband manages digital collections for the state historical society, and he's just had to rush in to honor a takedown request related to an immigrant oral history collection.

[EDIT: removing incident specifics, but we can all guess the specifics in this moment anyway.]

He's busy putting out fires and ensuring safety, so I'll say it:

This is horrifying. Fearmongering is middle-school bully nonsense. Stop being shitty to immigrants. Stand up for immigrants.

I'll add the link to enjoy the stories when things are calmer, but for now, the mission:

'The Immigrant Story is a private non-profit organization created by Sankar Raman in 2017 with the mission "to document, narrate, and curate the stories of immigrants in order to enhance empathy and help promote an inclusive community." Its goal is to both advance the national dialogue and to dispel myths about new Americans through strong, thoughtful narratives.'

Honor their mission. Don't be shitty.

Okay, the fire has been extinguished on that crisis, at least.

I'm going to trust my fedi network to be good people who respect and honor each other's stories.

Oregon Historical Society's collection "The Immigrant Story Oral Histories" is here: digitalcollections.ohs.org/the…

You can read a bit about the project at this blog post: ohs.org/blog/collaborating-to-…

OHS works hard to preserve and present these stories. Please enjoy them, recognize your fellow human beings, and stand with immigrants.
