"Trump released a flurry of nominations on Friday evening—apparently hoping that Americans would not notice that several of the nominees share a connection to Project 2025 and Fox 'news' programs.

The most significant nomination is Russell T. Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)."

"To the surprise of no one, Trump's claim during the election that he knew nothing about Project 2025 was a lie. There is almost no one better positioned to advocate for the goals of Project 2025 than Vought—both because of his key role in drafting the agenda and because of the powerful position he will assume at OMB."

As Joyce Vance reminds us, before Trump made Bill Barr his attorney general, Barr sent out a memo "that was more or less an audition tape for the job he ultimately got." "In it, Barr argued in favor of what had previously been a fringe theory of a powerful 'unitary executive,' in other words, a president able to consolidate power at the expense of the other two branches as a very powerful leader."

"Vought is a proponent of a powerful executive and of restructuring our institutions to facilitate a government that veers toward the monarchical and away from the democratic."

"The bottom line is that all of the pieces of Project 2025 that we’ve discussed for the last year are in play. We’ve known that here, even though Project 2025 seemed to fall off the radar screen after Trump's ersatz denial. Now it’s clear that all of the horribles are on the table, everything from the end of the Department of Education to the discontinuation of the weather warnings NOAA provides."

"There was a tendency, even among people who weren’t going to vote for him, but also among a lot of people who did vote for him, including some that I know, to say: This is just the way Trump talks. He’s crazy. He just talks like this. It doesn’t have any meaning.

And I think what we’ve learned in the last 48 hours or 72 hours — I’m losing track of how many hours it is — is: No, he does mean it."

"Donald Trump’s 'border czar' is threatening to round up undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles—whether local authorities like it or not.

Tom Homan, known for family separations and inhumane treatment of migrants at the southern border, said he would send 'twice as many officers' to Los Angeles should the city refuse to use their resources to hunt down migrants."

"'If I gotta send twice as many officers to LA because we're not getting any assistance, then that's what we're going to do,' Homan told Newsmax.

'We got a mandate. President Trump is serious about this. I'm serious about it. This is gonna happen with or without you.'"

Ruth Ben-Ghiat reminds us today of what she wrote this past May:

“The fascists believed that you have to destroy to create, and this is what a second Trump administration would do. This ethos of creative destruction has long been espoused by extremist Steve Bannon and is now normalized by suit-wearing subversives such as Vought."

“Without undocumented immigrant labor, we wouldn’t be able to sustain a food supply at the capacity that we have right now,” warned Ana Padilla, executive director of the Community and Labor Center at the University of California at Merced, in an interview with the Guardian."

@LazaroDTormes I used to live in California's Pajaro Valley, the "salad bowl of the US," and just north of that, in Silicon Valley and between. Every time there was an immigration crackdown, the produce would rot in the fields. Even the white hippie Farmers Market vendors would freak out, because they were losing money and exhausting themselves to get it picked and sold.

Republican voters are thrilled with the return of corruption & convict slave labor.

They get their very own gulags & "re-education" camps just like Russia &China.

Did America ever lose its passion for slavery?

Every GOP policy seems bent on re-creating a slave economy

Some weird GOP attitudes:
1. Work is punitive & abusive
2. Work is only for the so-called "lesser orders". A caste-based duty.
3. The rich can loaf off the taxpayers' dime
4. Taxation is only for those too dumb or lazy to evade it
5. Women owe a lifetime of unvalued, unrecognized, & unrewarded servitude to society
6. Biology is destiny
