The Guardian: Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US

"...Experts aren’t yet sure why colorectal cancer has risen in younger people, but Siegel said it’s an example of the “birth cohort effect”. That people born after the 1950s face heightened risk “tells us that there was some exposure, some risk factor that was introduced in the middle of the 20th century that’s increasing our risk of this disease”, Siegel said, “and it’s increasing the risk more and more with every subsequent generation.”..."

I saw this yesterday, in regard to a possible clue towards physical differences in the colon of people who get it: scitechdaily.com/why-colon-can…

I’m not sure! I’m wondering if it’s related to low fiber intake, but haven’t found any references relating the two yet.

@Lemniscate If I had to bet, I'd lay money on a combination of three factors including fiber intake:
1 - highly processed foods (much of which reduce fiber);
2 - insufficiency of probiotic foods (the benefits of which rely on ample prebiotic high fiber foods);
3 - chemical exposures damaging gut biome (negatively affecting benefits of already limited probiotic and prebiotic foods).

Same factors will also increase inflammation and increase chances of other diseases like diabetes.

Older generations had food packaged in glass & cans.

Microplastic contamination in the modern food supply system. Water in plastic bottles. Clothing & carpets.

The younger generation had the highest exposure to food contamination by the fossil fuel industry?

Younger generations lived in homes heated by natural gas.

They were exposed to a constant flow of fossil fuel toxins from gas stoves & water heaters.

Thanks, I don't need the lecture.

You might take this information and tack it onto the next person's post remarking about the prevalence of ADD/ADHD and anxiety disorders among the under-50 crowd.

The crunchy mom MAHA crowd doesn't seem to be making headway against that, only vaccines.

Not a lecture. I know you know but your audience & followers might not.

I'm a climate action advocate trying to share information.

The fossil fuel industry is literally killing us.
