🚨*Shots Fired by Macron!*🚨

Following the stunning, but unwanted Trump victory, President Macron outlines his future vision for the #EU & #Europe

He acknowledges that Europe can no longer rely on America for its military security & economic stability, & that the EU needs to stand on its own 2 feet & see #America & #China as rivals

North Koreans are fighting #Europeans in Europe, for a Trump backed #Russian dictator

@Eetschrijver

The reality is that this is going to cost us dearly. And what worries me is that the far-right propaganda forces are going to persuade people that sucking up that economic pain isn't necessary, because fascism isn't so bad after all.

The far right fascists will blindside & distract the masses by telling them their problems are all the fault of immigrants, whilst they bleed their countries dry.

HOWEVER, as we've seen previously, when the #FarRight have finished demonising immigrants, they'll need another object of hatred to blame to keep their fascist con going.

Next it will be #LGBTQ, then non Christians, then the elderly, then the infirmed. Essentially anyone who isn't white & straight.

This is what I fear. We are really going to need a compelling narrative that invites people to feel a sense of solidarity and unity to combat this.
in reply to Madeleine Morris

This compelling narrative can only come from we the people. #Putin has been playing the long game, by first grooming #Trump, & then funding #FarRight #Fascists in the West, as a way to destabilise it from within.

#MAGA want exactly what Putin wants, & it's no coincidence. Trump was set to withdraw the #US from #NATO before his 2020 election defeat.

Now MAGA are back to complete the West's destruction, but this time with lessons learned from their first attempt.

This is what I have written before: the first Trump term was just a trial run. Only now is there real clout behind the despicable projects.

I think we may need to think in very broad terms about what makes us European, and why we're proud of being Europeans. And the history and high art is all very well, but I don't think it touches people viscerally like sports and music festivals and ways to celebrate our amazing diversities as beautiful strengths.

I think the sobering thought of being invaded by Russia & having a NATO without #America, is finally making people wake up. For far too long, #Europe has been too comfortable without realising the period between WW2 & the invasion of Ukraine was its longest period of peace in 2000 years, if you discount the war in the #Balkans.

I think moving away from its reliance on #Russian oil & gas, & #America's military might for security, could be the making of Europe.

Don't forget the UK: a powerful EU member due to its "special relationship" with the USA, a valuable ally to America due to its influential position within the world's largest trade bloc. Brexit changed all that leaving us isolated, with no say over EU rules we still have to follow to do business, and "back of the queue" (as Obama put it) for stronger trade relations with America. Our global diplomatic clout dimished.

Putin knew what he was doing.
