/ After #ElonMusk has started to heavily promote #Trump in the past months, #Bluesky has seen a large surge of new users while #Mastodon has not. Yet I am more convinced than ever that focusing my social media efforts on the latter was the right choice. Why?

Because Bluesky is not Trump-proof.

/ #Bluesky is developed by Bluesky Social, an US company - which means it is within the sphere of influence of the #Trump administration. While Trump himself might not care, we can already see that #ElonMusk will have a massive influence in his administration - especially on anything tech-related.

/ And if #ElonMusk starts perceiving #Bluesky as a threat, he will use his political influence to get it under control. Maybe his buddies will buy Bluesky Social PBC outright. Maybe he will just throw regulations at it to make it nonviable. The end result will be the same.

/ If the owners and management of #Bluesky want to #Trump -proof their system, they had better start now - move their headquarters to the #EuropeanUnion or other safe haven, and do their best to encourage the federalization of the system.

/ If #Bluesky Social shuts down - either their servers, or the company itself - then there should be other servers owned by other groups who can keep the system running without interruption. As long as this is not the case, Bluesky is not #Trump -proof.
