I'm getting word from activists at City Hall this morning reporting an excessive deployment of police by SPD and the city council.

During this morning's city safety council meeting council members held public comment about SOAP/SODA legislation which aims to jail and fine sex workers and homeless people $5k for existing in major parts of town.

CM Cathy Moore's loitering laws have caused significant community resistance so council members cut short public comment.

When public commentors protested having been placed on the wait-list but not given a chance to speak councilman Bob Kettle called the cops like the karen he is. He made it sound like all hell was breaking loose instead of a few chants of "let them speak"

Listening to scanners SPD deployed the entirety of 2nd watch officers from two precincts to the scene over 3-5 people asking to be heard at public comment.

These new laws, Stay out of Drug Areas (SODA) and Stay Out of Areas of Prostitution (SOAP) zones, are proposed in most major parts of Seattle and target locations that have been scenes of homelessness, drug use or prostitution since the city was established.

What's especially troubling about these laws is that these areas are exactly where homeless and sex worker services are located!

Its absurd to make it illegal for these people to exist where their services are.

The demonstrators at city hall ask you to please take action and sign the Strippers Are Workers (SAW) letter to the city council opposing Seattle's stop and frisk laws.

Seattle previously had laws like this, and big surprise they were used against Black Americans, other people of color and queer+trans people at an alarming rate.

It sounds like at least one person was trespassed and removed from the chambers. The cops have left.

The council members have brought the meeting back to session. Immediately, another activist stands up and begins protesting the councils excessive use of police and their bullshit yes votes on the bill.

The bill was then voted on and passed the committee.

Another protester stands up....

At todays public session there were almost no supporters of this bill. The few positive comments came largely from landlords and business owners.

One business owner complained that his building had no other business tenants and was largely vacant. He blames the sex workers and homeless. Funny thing tho, I wondwr if the landlord considered lowering the rent?

Last month KUOW covered a few perspectives on the laws

Funniest moment during public comment was when someone said:

“If you are so concerned about women being bought maybe you should look over at [Councilmember] Tanya woo”

Which Tanya Woo is such a clown car of corruption and backdoor dealing I don't even know where to start but she's definitely the most bought woman in Seattle 🫠

Meanwhile most cringe moments. Second cringiest was definitely the landlord who proudly owns SIXTEEN buildings describing himself as "a small business owner" and also afraid of the homeless.

Top cringe however was the landlord who attempted to sing an anti-homeless version of "which side are you on". They cut his mic, he kept singing until the entire audience and city council were telling him to shut up. Guess we found one thing everyone agrees on 🫠

Ultimately Seattle city council advanced anti-homeless legislation and AGAIN illegally delayed Social Housing (I-137 certification).

Council did not put forth a replacement bill for I-137 and just decided to delay. (again, that's illegal lol). They even cited the fact they already were illegally delaying I-137 so no biggie if they continue to ignore the initiative process.

Tanya Woo reportedly wondered aloud "What IS social housing?" 🤦🏿

Right, so where's that leave us, folks who want tax money to maybe help people?

Come on down to the Seattle City Council meeting, Sept 17th, 2024, 2pm! ✨

We're probably gonna be fining homeless people $5k for existing instead of building housing, city council should probably hear from you. 📢

This one seems important, mark your calendar👇🏿

Activist held a noise demo Sunday evening at councilman Bob Kettle's house(the guy who called the cops on public commentors).

Councilman Kettle is ramming through the new Seattle stop and frisk law SOAP/SODA. It targets anyone who looks homeless, is dressed similarly to a sexworker or looks like they do drugs and enables cops and courts to banish people from large swaths of neighborhoods.

Unsurprisingly, Bob Kettle lives in Seattle's favorite Sun Down town.

I called the cops to file a report. We have photos of the assailants and videos. Most appeared to live on the block with the councilman and some home addresses of assailants were documented. The EMTs arrived within about 10min.

The cops NEVER showed up to take the report. We waited two hours.

People ask why we protest?

They destroyed our gardens.
They shutdown public comment.
They passed laws, attempting to criminalize homeless people existing near Mutual Aid services

In the medium term I'd like some support completing my fundraiser to spend time with my newborn.

I also at the same time am working on the start of some formal processes to hold this current Seattle City Council accountable. I can't talk about that in detail until documents are completed and filed due to rules. But I'm going to need a bit of heads down time to get that project fully into flight.

In the short term, I'm gonna need a day or two to recover but might need some sleuthing help to get to a final ID on the primary assailant.

If you or someone you know has had to sue over these sorts of issues in the King County area I'd love a lawyer recommendation or help sleuthing once I make content available (hopefully I caught the money shot 🤞🏿).

I'm fairly certain the neighbors we were able to already ID know the identity of the attacker, so I'm confident we can shake something loose.

Seattle city council is probably about to do some bullshit.

I'm still a bit dazed from the getting assaulted thing, would normally try and give public comment, but I'm really not feeling up to much rn.

People waiting for the meeting report a notable increase in police presence. Folks who spoke last week say they were indentified by cops and followed around while waiting.

They are just calling the meeting to order now.

Ok it seems the council has finally revealed their sabotage plan for I-137.

They introduced an alternative which reduces the $50M for social housing down to $10M ‼️

It also changes the funding source to literally take it out of other existing services already limited budget. 🚨

But the voters petition, which passed and their trying to ignore, would use a small tax on Seattle's mega corps and large businesses.

They will likely delay I-137 to Thursday's meeting.

House Our Neighbors, the folks who've been introducing social housing initiatives, are holding a public discussion tonight about the alternative bill.

Tonight's discussion was supposed to be a public forum with Tanya Woo(who was super uninformed last few council votes lol) but she dropped out. Probably bc she doesn't want to be questioned about this new sabotage proposal.

There is a live stream now available of the House our Neighbors meeting to discuss the councils sabotaged alternative bill

The House our Neighbors meeting was excellent. They brought up damning reporting from the stranger where former Seattle Attorney Pete Holmes describes the treatment I-137 has gotten as voter suppression 🔥

I have some many great notes from this webcast and damn, there's some serious work to do to hold this council accountable for Voter Suppression.

I dipped out of the city council meeting to watch the I-137 community forum, was pretty obvious how this was gonna play out.

The council has passed the SODA/SOAP bills which makes looking like a homeless person, a sex worker, or drug user in Seattle a reason a cop can stop you.

You can be banned from neighborhoods and fined $5k for existing in the wrong places.

The council did not vote on the I-137 & alternative bill tonight.

The city code says you have to wait 24hrs from the introduction to the passage of a bill. The alternative proposal to I-137 was introduced late yesterday so wasn't legal to vote on at the start of tonight's meeting.

A special season is scheduled for Thursday.

I've been patiently waiting for this final show down. It's gonna be a litigious fall 🤔

If they go past 45 days, oh baby we gone hit a home run 😉.
