Most hashtags are pretty obvious, you just put # in front of a topic. For example if a post is about coffee it might have the tag #Coffee
However, many popular hashtags have difficult-to-guess names, so I've started a list to help people discover them:
➡️ fedi.tips/fun-and-useful-hasht…
Copy-paste a hashtag into the search box in Mastodon if you want to browse or follow it.
If you have suggestions for non-obvious hashtags that should be added to the list, let me know in the replies 🙂

Do you want Mastodon to automatically hide certain kinds of posts?
Or do you want Mastodon to automatically place certain kinds of posts behind a content warning that you can click open?
You can do both of these things by using Mastodon's filters feature. Filters lets you automatically hide posts with particular words, phrases, hashtags, links or emoji in them. More info on how to create and use filters in the guide at:

If you're looking for accounts to follow, you might like to check out my other account FediFollows:
➡️ @FediFollows
It regularly posts themed lists of good accounts to follow, and it also has a website with thousands of recommended accounts sorted into topics:
To follow an account listed on the website, copy-paste the "Fediverse address" on its listing into the search box in Mastodon and then click "Follow".

There is a lot going on in the world right now, and it may be overwhelming at times. If you want to follow the news but you also need some way of taking mental health breaks, Mastodon's "Lists" feature might help.
Lists lets you move the accounts you follow into several separate timelines. You could for example create a "News" timeline and a "Non-News" timeline, then switch between them when you want to.
