"Since May 1, 2024 AD, 6,080 Sudanese refugees have arrived in the Olala Forest after leaving the Olala and Comer camps due to the security unrest there due to the ongoing armed clashes between the Ethiopian forces and the armed opposition militias. They fled from there on foot, intending to reach the Qandar region, but the Ethiopian authorities prevented them from progressing. About 5 km from the camp, they had to stay in the Olala forests.
Seventy-seven days have passed while they were sitting in this forest. They suffered what they suffered. They were afflicted by cold and rain. They were stung by snakes and scorpions. They slept among insects and flies. They ate crocodiles and tree bark. They were attacked by armed militias, including plundering, kidnapping, stealing, beating, threatening, and even... A case of rape of minor girls almost occurred less than two weeks ago.
Next August, they will face the danger of rain due to their presence in the mountains. Some local residents in the area told them that this forest is a stream channel and will be dangerous for you in the fall.
All of these tragedies are documented, photographed, and recorded with videos, photos, and testimonies. Many of them were published via the hashtag #السودانيينالعالقينباثيوبيا , and many of them are collected in a renewed porridge. I update it from time to time. You will find it below. The rest has been kept for the legal side.
The last of these calamities that our refugee people in Ethiopia face are the armed clashes that occur near them from time to time. Today, since the early hours of dawn, strong clashes took place between the federal police and armed militias in the Amhara region, causing the death of a number of soldiers and the capture of some of them. A stray bullet also occurred in Camp Comer injured a child who was in the camp (there are Sudanese refugees in Camp Comer to this day, unlike the refugees in the forest), and the federal police withdrew from the vicinity of the forest.
In fact, the problems are very many, and I did not mention to you their suffering with food and the way to bring it, or how they obtain water or medicine, and where they get medical care, in addition to the murders that occurred by armed groups, the last of which was a Sudanese refugee woman who was killed on Eid. She was pregnant with a fetus, and she was hit by a gunshot in the chest. Head.
So as not to be long for you, this is just a summary of what happened and is still happening to the Sudanese refugees in the Olala forests in the state of Ethiopia. We raise our voice as we demand the speedy evacuation of them from this forest and take them out of Ethiopia. We raise our voice as we demand that the world pay attention to these people. We raise our voice as we call on the influential people and everyone. Someone should publish about the condition of these poor people, make their voice heard, and put pressure on a response.
We renew our appeal and request to continue pressing and publishing to convey their suffering and evacuate them outside the Ethiopian state so that we do not lose new lives."
