"Misogyny was so core to his campaign and that appealed to many people and I guess didn’t bother enough other people (including many women) for it to be the winning message of the day. That’s a hard thing to know about your fellow citizens."

There's an interesting phenomenon. I saw it with France when the National Front arrived first in some of the recent elections, and now I see it with the US.
Everyone is blaming everyone else for the fascists winning, except... you know... the people who actually vote for the fascists and who want a fascist regime.
Maybe we could start with them, just saying.
"We are perched on the precipice of meme-ing ourselves into authoritarian dystopia, handing unchecked power to a narcissistic criminal demagogue because the price of bacon increased. ...
We are the only species capable of clinging to ideological zealotry. And we are the only ones who can make ourselves extinct."
~ Brian Klaas
"Presented with a choice between electing the first black, female president on a promise of a sunnier future, and a racist, misogynist, twice-impeached convicted felon hawking hatred and retribution, they picked Mr Trump."

"Our mistake was to think we lived in a better country than we do. …
The principal problems that got us to this bleakest moment in American history are intertwined. They are the crisis of masculinity, the failure of the news media and the rise of Silicon Valley, and in a way they are all the same problem."

"They knowingly voted to once again tear families apart and put babies in cages and commit what will almost certainly be horrific human rights abuses against immigrants. They voted to make life harder for me and my daughters because based on their conveniently misogynistic and bigoted interpretation of the Bible. ...

Cancelling Thanksgiving this year
This year, I have decided to cancel Thanksgiving dinner at my house. I see little to be thankful for this year after seeing that the majority of Americans willfully chose fascism—including a lot of my family members. Every year, I have been the cook.Daily Kos
"America was given the opportunity to let a Black and Asian American woman move us beyond a decade of Trump’s racist, sexist, and toxic form of grievance politics with a broad agenda grounded in joy, compassion, and opportunity. And America, specifically the majority of white Americans, said: 'No thanks. We’re good.'”

"With the election of Donald Trump, our fellow citizens are about to get exactly what they want. There is nothing that God, man, or the Constitution can do about it, because we did it to ourselves. …
The American people, which is all of us, got together on Tuesday and chose everything that’s coming for close to the next decade."

"Get your passport. Today. It takes time to come in and getting an updated gender marker will likely be shut down under Trump. - Update every ID your state allows you to. - Make sure you have a supply of medication in case of disruption - If you have a trans kid that is stealth, consider maintaining stealth to get around enforcement of anti-trans laws."
It's going to get very bad for some of us, quickly. Because others have chosen this for us.
Erin Reed reminds us of the practice, life-or-death challenges now facing some of us due to the choice made by the rest of us. She's offering advice to trans people and people who care about them:

"Trump’s predictable return to the presidency—in what is the final American presidential election of our lifetimes (a conservative plan decades in the making, with help from liberal complicity masquerading as incompetence)—was nothing more and nothing less than the majority of white voters confirming that they want to live in a country that adheres to the standards of living as expressed in 1824 rather than 2024."
"The majority of white people knew that a vote for Trump would be a vote against Black people, Brown people, Asian people, queer people, trans people, disabled people, poor people, Black and Brown immigrants, Palestinians, children, the rights of women, unions, literature, art, the environment, and democracy."
"The media will be complicit in protecting the majority of white American voters from being labeled as the staunch and bred bigots that they are."

So here's the breakdown: white woman moved to Harris, but not quite a majority. Latino men moved heavily to Trump, and it was not just a majority, but a 33 point swing from 2020.
Not a thing I saw coming. I mean... how do you vote for the guy calling you and yours what he calls you? How do you vote for the one _campaigning_ on an _ethnic purge against you_?
That's not all of it, but it's a lot of it.
This isn't over but this is some very, very bad case scenario here.
