"Trump aides think it’s a net plus. The longer the discussion is about migrants, the less it is about tougher topics for them.

'We talk about abortion, we lose. We talk about immigration, we win,' said one Trump adviser."

@GreenFire He seems to be one of those Politico folks who claim to have an inside track on Trump's inner circle, Trump whisperers.

@GreenFire I had seen news about that earlier today. Yes, that outfit leans very much in a Republican direction. I read articles there only when they occasionally pop up in feed of commentators I prefer to read.

Sending abortion "back to the states" has only shown how undemocratic and extreme many states are.
in reply to TCat - Vote Blue, Vote Harris

@TCatInReality Well-stated. It has, for sure. And, of course, we knew from the outset that the whole concept of states' rights was crafted to preserve the institution of slavery by thwarting democratic attempts to overturn it.
in reply to TCat - Vote Blue, Vote Harris

@TCatInReality @Npars01 If the federal government is too removed to decide about abortion, why leave it to the states? Why not take it to the counties, or cities, or blocks…or maybe, just maybe, the INDIVIDUAL.

This is only true if you equate intelligence to education.

One of our biggest problems in modern day society is the underestimation of the natural world.

When you are a HUMAN and you are creating ways to 'euthanize' YOUR OWN SPECIES, you are inherently STUPID no matter how educated you have become.

The wealthy love desperate, hungry, sick people with few options. Repressing women also creates an entire repressed working class. It's no accident.

Exactly!!

Why not push the decision down to the individual?

To take it further, the GOP is obsessed with letting service providers make individual decisions - just not the people who need the service.

Pete Buttigieg described in detail why the GOP are clinging to the malign influence narrative about immigrants & pets.

It's to hijack a news cycle after the debate where Trump was a failure & avoid focus on issues. It's a deliberate media strategy.

Issues like women's rights, climate, gun violence, taxes on the rich, Project 2025,

@Npars01 Thank you for these links. Astute commentary by Pete Buttigieg. Through the entire Trump era, the catch-22 has been that if we totally ignore their malicious statements and actions towards vulnerable people, those people have no defenders. But if we respond and highlight what's going on, we fall into the cycle of letting Trump and his epigones drive news cycles. The key here is media awareness of what's going on and refusal to be led by the nose.
