“International Brotherhood of Teamsters will not endorse a candidate in the presidential race, for the first time in nearly three decades, in a blow to the Democratic Party, which has reliably received the union’s approval for years, according to the union.

The Teamsters confirmed the decision not to endorse. The union’s executive board was meeting in Washington to consider an endorsement on Wednesday afternoon.”

2/ When I saw the news alert that their members voted overwhelmingly for Trump, my eyes rolled so far up into my head that I could see my own ass.

3/ Via The Hill:

"The Teamsters, which is one of the largest unions in the country, said a poll of members conducted after last week’s debate between Harris and Trump found 58 percent backed Trump compared to 31 percent who supported the vice president. The poll was conducted by Lake Research Partners."

Why don’t they just disband their Union if they want a President who will work to get rid of all unions?

I am also seeing now some other state chapters have joined in on Harris endorsement

4/ Soooo.... more of a blow to Trump than Dems? Seems that way, WaPo.

5/ Via reporter Gabby Birenbaum:

Inbox: Teamsters in NV (and CA/HI/Guam) are endorsing Kamala #Harris

Comes as the national org announced plans not to endorse -- a blow to Harris. Teamsters president Sean O'Brien spoke at the RNC this summer.

5/ My pal Joan Walsh and I are in an email group, discussing why they wouldn't endorse. She said, among other things, "misogynoir" which I am now stealing... with her robust permission.

I've heard it elsewhere, but it's indeed the right word for this situation.
in reply to Laffy

@mbrailer Yeah, it's a pretty well-used word in more intersectional circles, and saying "steal" hits the wrong note.

Not scolding you, just offering a polite fyi.

in reply to humanadverb

@humanadverb Huh? It's a just a whimsical way of saying we heard the word and adopted it. Vernacular on this one seems maybe a little oversensitive? I appreciate the non scold, lol @mbrailer
in reply to Laffy

@mbrailer I was just pointing out that "stealing" a word (literally taking ownership even though your figurative use is obvious), instead of just noting that it isn't yours, in a racialized context might come off more oafish than whimsical, but you do you.

Anyway, it's not like you would compound the faux pas by accusing anyone of being oversensitive or anything.

in reply to humanadverb

@humanadverb First, why are you being so provocative and argumentative, especially over this?

Second, I was being very gentle when I said "seems maybe a little oversensitive"... but "you do you."

I see why you have only 32 followers after a year on Mastodon.

Meantime, I'll do me and block you. #Toodles

@mbrailer

@Snowshadow Hashtag it’s a reply guy. They always have to keep going and going and going, then blame others for being “oversensitive.”

Blocked.
