Can I say "it's complicated"? I think it is very exciting and cool, but the way it's being developed, promoted and used is, largely, terrible.

absolutely agree. Here are some of my thoughts (if anyone's curious): codingwithjesse.com/blog/how-i…

I look at the people funding AI & grow increasingly concerned about why they fund AI & not something better for humanity in general.

1. AI is funded by people imposing fascism on us all.

What Charles Koch could not get from buying corrupt Supreme Court Justices, a coup attempt, 147 congressional election deniers, destroying agency powers, and 40 years of civil rights rollbacks,...

...he hopes to get via AI.

Those who remade American democracy to enrich themselves, & only themselves, have a sudden interest in "economic mobility"

"... charitable foundations of billionaires Bill Gates (net worth: $116.9 billion), Charles Koch ($67.5 billion), Steve Ballmer ($142.5 billion), Intuit founder Scott Cook ($7.7 billion) & hedge fund investor John Overdeck ($7.4 billion) announced a more than $1 billion pledge to fund a new philanthropic vehicle focused on economic mobility called NextLadder Ventures"

2. The folks who remade capitalism into a vehicle for social murder & ecocide are...

... the same folks trying to con us all into believing climate change is survivable.

Koch Network, like Putin, Alwaleed bin Talal, and #PrinceBonesaw, are funding AI to get automated election interference & keep burning their toxic products.

3. OPEC is flooding AI with cash for a lot of reasons

-- Election interference
-- Stopping climate action
-- Cashing out their chips before the value of their fossil fuel assets collapses, as demand flattens
-- drive up electricity rates
-- artificially increase fossil fuel demand

Preparations for world war is the biggest goal.

4. AI is getting this kind of investment hype because The Moneyed want an international system of surveillance & spyware embedded in everything.

As climate change worsens, the number of climate refugees & famines will increase, & wars are seemingly inevitable.
The Moneyed see fascism as the solution.

Koch Network isn't going to balk at a few billion more. Bradley, Koch, Coors, Scaife Mellon, Seid, Uihlein

1 in 5 deaths are due to fossil fuels now. Who knows what an AI enabled disinformation campaign will do.
jacobin.com/2021/12/right-wing…

An AI-enabled mass malign influence campaign would make self-harms like Brexit, ten times worse.

So, go ahead and toy with AI for coding, but recognize the price being paid for a little convenience.

@Npars01 Of course he does. More data, more databases, more non-negotiable licenses so huge $ for him and total control of everyone’s stolen data

>AI is funded by people imposing fascism on us all.

Interesting take. Seems like a matter of POV.

It's also not mutually exclusive, Musk & pals can be a fascist along with AI haters.

From the haters it's very 1984, 'Don't believe your own eyes,' style fascism.

>The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

The Fediverse: Ignore your results, Qwen3-VL isn't a good vision model.

@Npars01 @simon #genai, especially as it relates to chatbots, is a #darkpattern.

I say this as a power user who finds them useful when scoped or when users are aware how they work. In their current form they're just a hyperoptomized sociotechnical loop that will convince users to share data that will be used against them in the future.

Every #AI investment in every country is a disguised #WATER grab, WATER theft. These tech giants are literally seizing the world’s water while telling us it is about AI, technology and growth. Each one is going to lead to prioritization of corporate access to water in the name of #datastorage while starving those who need the water to simply survive. #datacenters #nature #ecology #ClimateChange
