Hundreds of children protested at the Texas facility holding 5-year-old Liam Ramos, chanting “Libertad,” or "Freedom," in a show of solidarity with Ramos.
The facility is run by CoreCivic, a private prison company. Eric Lee, an attorney for some of the families and children, said the protest was in response to the harsh day-to-day conditions at the facility, which he describe as “a horrible, horrible place,” with putrid drinking water and meals that contain bugs, dirt, and debris, with guards as cruel as those at adult prisons.

Liam’s teacher Ella Sullivan was in visible tears during the announcement that Liam had been taken away. “He’s a bright young student, & he’s so kind & loving, & his classmates miss him, & all I want is for him to be safe & back here,” Sullivan said.
