It's October in most places now, so it's time to share this:

jcarroll.com.au/2024/10/01/a-s…

If you're new to contributing to open source software and want some experience making a pull request to fix an R package, then you're welcome to try it out on this repository

github.com/jonocarroll/safespa…

I'll review your changes and give feedback, and you can test the waters for changing someone else's codebase.

Boosts and shares will be appreciated!

I have blogged briefly about the pleasure of giving the third and final Ihaka Lecture for 2024 at the birth of #rstats, University of Auckland. With links to my slides, the storyline I used to structure the talk, and the video of the talk. Featuring the tagline "I have nothing to offer but Git, peer review, tests and toil". Big thanks to all at University of Auckland's Department of Statistics. freerangestats.info/blog/2024/…

lasR, a new software for working with large lidar datasets, developed by the author of the lidR package, one of the most dedicated and experienced developers in this field I know. It is free, open source and very fast. Currently there is an R API with others possibly coming in the future.
