We love it when parents bring kids to #vote. We have stickers! We make sure the kids get the “Future Voter” stickers.

Around 10:00am we had 5 voters and 6 kids. More kids than voters!

This year we have special “presidential election” stickers. First time I’ve seen those.

#Virginia is one of many states that prohibits #firearms and #guns in a #polling place. I’m no lawyer so I don’t really know how long it’s been in its current form. It seems like this law has been on the books a long time (since 1950 with various amendment over the years).

This is the first year we have made much of a fuss about it. We have 2 prominent signs and we got a tiny bit of training on how to handle the situation. (Pretty much tell people the law, try to calmly persuade them to go away and come back to vote without it, and escalate anything serious to 911, who have been prepped for this.)

I’ve been doing this 20 years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a firearm in a polling place except an active duty police officer in uniform coming in to #vote.

Well I just took my 83 year old mom to #vote at her little township precinct where we’ve NEVER had to wait, the line was around the building! While we were there the #election workers ran out of ballots for the first time ever. They had more, but they were shocked it had happened. It was only 11:30 in the morning & they’d set out the usual amount for the day when they ran out, they have 7½ hours left of voting. It was an incredible turnout.

I ended up biking the word backwards to deal with a one-way street. 36°F when I got there and it started snowing, which turned to rain, then switched to a blustery cold wind. 1.8 miles to bike the word, including a bit of double tracking, it was over in no time so I biked around the town’s outskirts, even found a section of rail trail we hadn’t been on before.

I’m absolutely gonna cry when the election is decided. Either because we win and my family and friends and so many vulnerable groups and I are safe, and I’m just so, so horribly exhausted from working and constantly facing horrible online abuse and fighting. Or because my country, that I served my whole youth, is gone to fascism for the rest of my life - and I have to leave. Either way I’ll cry.

Normally I don't watch TV however, I was helping an elderly neighbour by adjusting their digital clocks and he had his tv turned on.
Trump commercials were playing and it blew me away the absolute BS his campaign was producing.
I turned to the gentleman and said,
"I hope you don't believe this propaganda!"

He looked at me and replied:
"I wish Trump was dying in prison and that's too good for him"

I walked away thinking if this 90+ year old man can figure it out, then there is hope for the US .
