Podcast: The Corruption of Open Source / Tech Won’t Save Us
Paris Marx invited me to his influential Tech Won’t Save Us podcast to connect two seemingly distinct stories: The WordPress collapse (that I also talked with Hagen about on his podcast) and the new OSI “Open Source AI Definition” (that is not Open Source at all).
I think we have actually reached the limitations of what the Open Source term and concept can do for us and I am not sure it’s enough for the future. Because software projects for the commons and a sort of social good need to face the fact that they are political and therefore need to include actual political representation of alls stakeholders as well as democratic and transparent modes of decision making (at least when reaching a certain traction/user base).
It was a blast to get to talk to Paris again, you can check the episode out at the Tech Won’t Save Us episode page or wherever you get your podcasts.

#Journalists, please take note.
Given the recent capitulation of the #billionaire #MSM magnates, it should be obvious to everyone that claims of "editorial independence" have been used as cover for #CapitalistPropaganda for decades now.
Rupert Murdoch, as an example, has single handedly shattered the political #OvertonWindow in every nation under his sway.
Question: How do journalists worthy of the name challenge the billionaire narrative?
The fragmentation of the #press into the paid subscription #Wordpress #Substack #Medium model is doing the opposite.
Answer: the #PressCo-op
And, the answer ALREADY EXISTS in the form of the #fediverse. Journalists have to come together and form their own #instances and WE have to support those instances -- just like we support our own instances.
We have an incredible tool here people. We have an incredible tool to break free of paying the MSM and Wordpress style billionaires to destroy our #InformationEcosystem.
And they have destroyed it. They've built a billionaire propaganda machine in it's place while we stand around wondering
