"Hi I'm Shannon. I spent a good portion of 2023 quite ill with gallbladder issues I did not know about until I had to have emergency surgery in August 2023. I had surgery and more downtime than I could afford and I also found out my family is getting priced out of our home this year. I've managed through fundraising and hustling to pay almost all of it.

Challenge:
Six members of my family are trapped in Sudan, including two with disabilities and chronic illness. My father, who is 70 years old, retired a long time ago due to his medical condition (complete blind with both eyes). He is also diabetic . Our youngest sister had been diagnosed with Erb's palsy since birth. My father and three sisters are now stranded and stuck without first aid treatment, water, food and shelter in Sennar State and my two brothers are trapped in Khartoum in our house where our neighborhood is under RSF control! "

Help us make this happen by supporting our campaign. Proceeds will go towards (1) providing rent support to Black transgender applicants, (2) access to hormone replacement + affirmative healthcare, (3) funding for our Black transgender staff, and (4) healthcare for our staff, as well.
"For a year now Lebanon has endured daily bombing and shelling from Israel to the south. Now as the Israeli occupation expands its war of terror, Lebanon is now facing the worst bombing and violence of a generation. Already we have more refugees per capita than any other country in the world and are suffering crushing poverty and constant crisis. Now due to the bombings there is chaos as hundreds of thousands more are displaced and fleeing their homes. Most are desperate for basic needs, food, medicine, places to sleep & grieving the destruction of their homes and the killing of their loved ones.
In response Food not Bombs Lebanon is working to establish community support in various neighborhoods in Beirut. Currently there are two kitchens working to provide food and comfort to those arriving. Unfortunately our resources are limited and costs have risen rapidly. In order to keep up feeding those in dire need and expand our kitchens we are in desperate need of funding.
With your help we can buy ingredients to keep making food and make more of it, cover gas to transport things, as well as start purchasing other essentials like mattresses and blankets. We want to be able to help as much as we can and expand the ways in which we will support the displaced.
Food not Bombs Lebanon is an independent project that first formed in 2020 when we worked to help people survive and recover from the Beirut port explosion. After a hiatus we have now reformed to address the newest catastrophe that our homeland is facing. Our hope is that we can work to not just to respond to this disaster but to build towards a longer-term model of community care and mutual aid."

We're four days into the most significant natural disaster in the recorded history of our region. Our community is experiencing an ongoing crisis created by infrastructural collapse and the profound failure of capitalism to value and sustain life. No state or federal aid has yet reached Asheville, but all around us we're seeing regular people acting autonomously to address immediate needs and meet one another with care. We hope to write soon about the beautiful and resourceful things we've witnessed.
Our co-op is physically intact and our members are accounted for. Although we've fared better than many, we're experiencing this crisis physically and emotionally. We're exhausted, largely without power, water, or internet. Cell service is poor, and when we are able to connect, the volume of information is overwhelming. Right now our priority is supporting and facilitating mutual aid efforts and we ask for your patience as we cannot keep up with emails, texts, and DMs.
Firestorm will continue to act as an in-person resource and information hub over the coming days, with staffing from noon to 4pm. A daily meeting at 2pm serves as a space for neighbors to get verified updates and coordinate mutual aid efforts. Other hubs have arisen organically in other parts of town and we're doing our best to share and connect resources.
