i really respect that #11tyconf conf had speaker honorariums, despite being a free event.

it's super important for conferences to compensate all speakers, who spend dozens (sometimes hundreds) of hours preparing their talks.

personally, i chose to have my honorarium be donated to open source projects that i think need it more than me (namely @openwebdocs, @servo, @OddBird, and @vite)

catching up on #11tyconf since I was too busy to view live.

I would recommend these 2 talks:
"Hints & Suggestions (First, Do No Harm)" by Miriam Suzanne
- some history about the www and css, giving insides into the philosophy behind css
"Light mode versus Dark mode" by Sara Joy
- how to make a website react to the browser/system setting without JS
I kinda hoped for more talks regarding accessibility and user experience...
A big thank you to all speakers!
@eleventy

If you haven't, go watch the talk by @mia in the #11tyconf . It's really amazing and thought provoking.

Ever since @pauleveritt's #11tyConf talk and tutorial series, I've been tinkering to take some of those ideas a couple of steps further.

The first step is adding front matter validation to TSX layouts in #Eleventy 3 using #Zod.

Absolutely loved Ivan Zhao's talk on Chinese type systems at #11tyconf. The 怩怩搑䞊 poster in the examples section is stunning

Now that @eleventy’s International Symposium on Making Web Sites Real Good (#11tyConf) is over, I updated the CTA button on #eleventeen to point to @artact, and added links to it, @famebot and me plus @zachleat, #11tyBundle + @bobmonsour and #11ty + @cloudcannon YTs while reworking About page copy: https://eleventeen.blog/about/

#ICYMI, the full stream of @eleventy’s International Symposium on Making Web Sites Real Good (#11tyConf) is available on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLxJ6PtuF9M&t=1204s

On behalf of @artact, I want to say how thrilled we are to have played a small part in bringing it to life and how eagerly we are anticipating releasing our new site and many #eleventy projects to come. Also true for @famebot.

@cloudcannon and @zachleat have been outstanding partners to work with in every regard. #11ty

Received this earlier today - just in time to go into my packing for Beyond Tellerrand, perfect!

Bless @skinnylatte for her talk at #11tyConf - this right here is what I need. I'm somewhat technically oriented, but I adore doing websites and learning new things for FUN. I keep eyeballing @eleventy but the starter docs are definitely geared towards those who have much more experience than I do. I'd love to see a more "noob-friendly" set of starter docs.

Eleventy is an act of rebellion against the dark forces driving today’s internet, said its creator @zachleat at #11tyConf. Also at the lively event, we discovered that @eleventy does scale! https://thenewstack.io/static-sites-do-scale-eleventy-vs-next-js-at-11ty-event/ #WebDev

Catching up on @dansinker's #11tyConf talk and this just jumped out at me:

> Something that's marked with the patina of age, and the utility of a work-a-day website.

I like that. I'm not sure exactly how a website has patina but equally I think I could tell you, when I come across one that does. I also like the idea of a work a day website. Utilitarian, does the job for maybe a small company, just to establish their presence on the web.

Mmm. Onward.

I think I’m going to have to make an #11tyconf category on the https://11tybundle.dev/ site to capture all the post conference blog posts. Stay tuned. #11ty

Happy to see I can catch up on parts of #11tyconf today that I wasn't able to make it to yesterday. So many great talks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLxJ6PtuF9M

As promised my highlights from the #11tyconf:

https://alextheward.com/posts/11ty-conference-thoughts/

Very good way to spend my Thursday and I enjoyed all of the talks!

I didn't recap all of them, just a few but rest assured I learned a bunch of things from every single one of the presenters.

That #11tyConf today was terrific! I’m đŸ«°close to getting cultured nyc off WP, then one more site and goodbye WP forever!

Fun fact, I’ve had a personal web site continuously since 1994.

Sad to have missed both #DrupalCon and #11tyconf this week, but I am a person who DOES watch the recordings. With knitting. And popcorn. Can’t wait to dig into some fantastic sessions!

It was a great symposium put on by the 11ty group. Thank you again for everyone involved and who shared.

@mikeneu Hi Mike! Thanks for a great #11tyconf! A meta-question: What tool did you use for the stream, Streamyard or something else?

Hey @henry just saw your talk at #11tyConf, loving the energy! đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„

Too bad you only had 11 minutes, I'm currently exploring #WebMentions and would've loved to hear about it more in-depth. Did you already blog about this, by any chance?

To everyone else, here's the talk I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/live/iLxJ6PtuF9M?si=qYE7qhAIbnAO92yk&t=8534

What did you use for your slides? For a moment I thought #iaPresenter đŸ€”

Catching up with the #11tyConf this morning, UK time (time zone and family responsibilities meant I didn't attend live). Looks like it was a large and active audience, judging by the chat on YouTube. I thought I'd add my 2 cents to the 'how did you get to 11ty' topic. For me it was:

HTML > Geocities-like apps (can't recall which ones) > Radio Userland > Movable Type > WordPress > Hugo > Eleventy

(not counting code tools like Dreamweaver, FrontPage, VSCode, etc)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLxJ6PtuF9M

I'm still hyped about everything that happened at #11tyconf. The talks were so great, and I'm once again keen to try out @eleventy in new ways.

Especially interested to try out the new ‘Eleventy Transform' option within the Eleventy Image plugin, allowing you to transform any `<img>` automatically into something more performant https://www.11ty.dev/docs/plugins/image/#eleventy-transform

A few #11tyConf thank yous before I sign off:

Diane at https://whitecoatcaptioning.com/ (the hardest working folks in the biz)

The people at https://streamyard.com/ who have an incredible product on their hands and made organizing this thing possible.

Everyone at @cloudcannon — they made this conference a reality.

We did it!

#11tyConf has wrapped and I am so humbled by the response to this event. The incredible speakers, the incredible audience, the incredible organizers — y’all are amazing.

Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this community.

Such a great talk @sarajw! I’m going to look into adding the less contrast option to my site. #11tyconf

There was an interesting #accessibility question in the #11tyConf chat I wanted to surface.

Say your site styles are responding to the `prefers-contrast: less` media query. Must they still conform to the relevant 4.5:1 and 3:1 contrast ratios when the media query is active?

I'm a content designer, not a developer, but I felt super at home at #11tyConf. It was an excellent conference with diverse talks that fiercely championed the web platform while having a little something for everyone. Thank you @eleventy and @cloudcannon !

really appreciate that #11tyconf had quality live captions and that it worked so smoothly with youtube

this should be standard practice for conferences

Awesome talk - made me realise I now know only a tiny part of the original CSS and need to catch up!

#11tyconf

Just at the end of #11tyConf I managed to implement a self-sorting custom collection for an events list on the Helsinki Pedestrians' Association's website (https://jalankulkijat.fi).

Here is the blog post on how I did it: https://samimaatta.fi/en/a-custom-collection-to-sort-events-with-eleventy/.

Thanks for the great tool @eleventy and @zachleat !

omg this started playing right after the stream ended

#11tyconf

Stayed up until 5 in the morning watching all the *incredible* talks from #11tyConf (“International Symposium on Making Web Sites Real Good”), and I have ZERO regrets. Huge, huge shoutout to everyone involved! ❀ Now, if you’ll excuse me
 😮

I learnt a whole bunch with that #11ty Conference, woo đŸ„ł

That was great, hoping there will be another in the future!

I've got a few talks to catch up on as I had to attend something else in the middle - but looking forward to type up some notes and get to learning.

Such a good vibe, thanks to everyone involved 💚

#11tyConf

Really enjoyed the virtual #11tyconf today. Thanks to @mikeneu and @zachleat for organizing, and to all the presenters.

The talk from @dansinker on Question Mark, Ohio, was a standout. Beyond the substantial artistic value of the work, as an artifact of its construction it also ends up presenting a vision of what it would be to live in a town where everyone mostly used #smallweb sites.

here's me hoping #11tyconf videos are up by the end of my day so I can settle in with a beer to catch up all that i missed đŸ»
